Defiled announce new album ‘Altered State’
DEFILED have announced a brand new album!
The Tokyo-based death metal veterans will release their ninth full-length record, Altered State, on June 12th, 2026 via Season of Mist. The album serves as the follow-up to 2024’s Horror Beyond Horror, continuing to expand on the band’s long-established blend of old-school death metal, technical thrash riffing and progressive rock compositional logic.
Altered State was produced by Yusuke Sumita and recorded at Studio Zot in Tokyo, with sound engineering handled by Shinichiro Hamada and Keisuke Hamada. Mixing and mastering were completed by Kenji Kikuchi at Studio Nest in Chiba, Japan. The album artwork was created by Wes Benscoter, with photography by Fukcrec Hbk.
Speaking about the record, Yusuke Sumita says, “both musically and lyrically, Altered State is an expansion of The Highest Level and Horror Beyond Horror. The music is a combination of old-school death metal, technical-thrash riffs and the rhythmic changes of progressive rock. The lyrics are based on the dystopian world presented in George Orwell’s science-fiction masterpiece 1984. They express the madness that everyone living in the present currently feels.”
In support of the album announcement, DEFILED have unveiled Obsession, the second single to be taken from Altered State, following previously released lead single Portal earlier this year. The music video for Obsession was directed by Seaside99works.
