Slothrust announce new album ‘What They Grow In The Garden’
SLOTHRUST have announced a brand new album!
The Los Angeles alternative rock duo have revealed their new album, What They Grow In The Garden, which is scheduled for release on September 18th via Equal Vision Records and Rude Records. The upcoming record follows 2021’s Parallel Timeline and marks the band’s first album as a duo.
Produced by the band alongside Jordan Witzigreuter (THE READY SET), What They Grow In The Garden is described as “dystopian theatre rock”, blending the band’s alternative rock foundations with ambitious songwriting and theatrical flourishes. Lyrically, the record examines humanity’s relationship with technology, capitalism and identity, encouraging listeners to look inward rather than seeking answers through external distractions.
Discussing the themes of the album, vocalist/guitarist Leah Wellbaum and drummer Will Gorin explains, “we really want people to take away a message from this album of self-liberation amidst the flickers of seemingly inescapable dread. Despite the permeating blue light of the external world, it is still possible to find your freedom and identify your core truths if you go within.”
To coincide with the announcement, SLOTHRUST have also unveiled two new singles, Dystopian Cemetery and Twisted Paradise, offering further insight into the album’s themes of self-liberation, digital dependency and modern existence.
Speaking about Dystopian Cemetery, vocalist and guitarist Wellbaum shares, “do not forget the delights that are possible within your own mind. Tap back into the freedom mindset you felt as a child and follow what charms you. Pull on the threads of curiosity and let them lead you to the magic of your consciousness.” On Twisted Paradise, Wellbaum adds, “I have always been incredibly impacted by my dreams. I have experienced profound healing from my dreams, as well as incredibly disturbing mental states that linger for days. This song examines the beauty and the horror of the subconscious mind when it is let off its leash at night when we go to sleep.”
