ALBUM REVIEW: Aeons Of Oblivion – Distant
Since their arrival DISTANT have been relentlessly bludgeoning the human population with their devastating slam-infused deathcore offerings, rarely drawing breath before bringing forth another release. Since the release of 2019’s Tyrannotophia the sextet have released a further two EPs in the form of Dusk Of Anguish and Dawn Of Corruption and show little sign of hitting the breaks on this unstoppable juggernaut any time soon. June 11th will unveil the latest implement in their ever growing arsenal entitled Aeons Of Oblivion which features tracks from the previously mentioned EPs interwoven with an injection of new tracks to bring their overarching conceptual narrative to fruition.
Looking at the tracklist you would be forgiven to feel a little overwhelmed at the sheer wealth of tracks on offer but before you know it you soon realise they all slot together seamlessly like one maniacal jigsaw of utter brutality. Whether you have heard the previous material or not, the reshuffle of tracks breathes a new sense of life into the pieces making the overall package feel fresh and exciting.
From unnerving atmospherics to ear shattering vocal blasts Aeons Of Oblivion doesn’t let up for even a second, perpetually hammering you with a sea of vicious instrumentation. As well as the abundance of material we have been spoiled with there are plenty of guest features to get your teeth sunk into including members from BRAND OF SACRIFICE, ALPHA WOLF and INGESTED, to name but a few, who are on hand to elevate the carnage one step further. This displays the tight-knit community which DISTANT have embraced and surrounded themselves with.
Whether you’re being haunted by the chilling cries of opening intro Pandemonium, having your bones rattled by the jarring dissonance of Temple Of Taglaroth or getting your neck snapped by the intoxicating grooves of Hellmouth this release grabs you by the throat and refuses to let go until you’re nothing but a lifeless husk. It gathers momentum quickly and mows down all that dares to oppose it.
An hour of unforgiving pummelling may be considered too much for some to endure but if you love music that assaults your senses without shedding a second of remorse then there are few who have the consistency of execution quite like DISTANT. Considering the sheer level of orchestration that has been poured into Aeons Of Oblivion the big question is where on earth do they go next? Judging by their track record of swift releases it would be a safe bet that you will be hearing from them again sooner rather than later.
