ALBUM REVIEW: Cuts – Port Noir

Europe is the place to be for the progressive realm of rock and metal right now. It is difficult to keep track of all the talented artists without your head spinning off. Sweden’s PORT NOIR keep going from strength to strength with each release, and their latest instalment Cuts which is available now via Despotz Records further enforces their claim to be at the top of the pack.

All Class opens this release up with a punchy tempo and infectious lyrical passages. The snappy drumming complements the building momentum. Wild is equally as addictive with its enticing rhythms and melodies. The latter stages in particular are a true joy to behold as the song bursts into life with a gushing sensation of euphoric vibrancy. Sweet & Salt is as smooth as silk. The swarming atmospherics, pulsing electronic beats and lively drum fills prove to be a potent combination.

Emerald Green harnesses a dramatic prose that is accompanied by slick riff work, completely hooking you into its immersive mood and tones. Deep Waters is tinged with darkness and a gloomier vibe which really suits the emotive vocal delivery. Preach keeps the distinct liveliness in full swing, crafting an undeniable bop that will get your blood pumping and foot tapping.

Unclean is certainly not short of groove; quirky but alluring guitar work floats around in the periphery. This track is escapism at its finest. Monument effortlessly seeps into your ears with soothing melodies and an irresistible beat that wouldn’t feel out of place on a mainstream radio station. Entertain Us ups the ante for one final flourish of vigour and intensity.

Cuts is crammed full of bite-size, exhilarating chunks that have a ridiculously level of replayability. PORT NOIR have really found their stride with this release as it teeters the line between eccentricity and accessibility that will have plenty of listeners returning for more of their unique offering.
