ALBUM REVIEW: Dawn Of Domination – Bastardizer

Just when you thought it was physically impossible for Australia to conjure up another force in metal we are graced with blackened thrash outfit BASTARDIZER. Their debut full length Enforcers Of Evil was released back in 2014 and the eagerly awaited follow up Dawn Of Domination is now upon us which is due for release on April 30th via Evil Spell Records. Do they have what it takes to make their mark on one of the most hotly contested collectives in metal?

Dawn Of Domination gears up for battle with a powerful intent and a marching drum beat teeing up the swift shredding of A Dose Of Vengeance. Raspy growls and an 80’s thrash vibe ensure this release starts off strongly. Crimson Trenches quickly follows with punishing drum work as the black metal tinges begin to seep into the track. Sharp bass tones and an aggressive attitude get the adrenaline pumping.

Death Cult begins to whip up a frenzy with a quick tempo and punchy riffing. The commanding stride and addictive melodies bring the intensity to a boil. Demons Unleashed keeps the momentum going as galloping guitar work and nostalgic tones course through its veins. Clinical solo work tops off the track. The sheer catchiness of Whiskey ’til Death becomes a highlight as its booze fuelled lyrical content is the ideal opportunity for a bit of crowd participation.

Up The Ante does what it says on the tin as thunderous drumming and razor sharp riffing take hold of proceedings. Slick lead work follows to continue the aural assault. Hellions Of The Oath introduces a slower, more purposeful approach which picks up velocity as it progresses. The enticing riffs keep flowing at an alarming rate. Midnight In Hell welcomes you with a high pitched scream as further instances of no frills, sprinting guitar barrages maintain the white hot pace.

Mongrels’ Wrath/The Depraved Nazarene Whore quickly consumes you in darker, evil tones as pummelling drum work steadily chips away. Melodic subtleties raise the allure of the track providing one of Dawn Of Domination‘s stand out offerings. Unholy Allegiance charges towards the finishing line with crunchy bass lines and ominous bell chimes signalling the end of days. Further bursts of shredding are unleashed to leave your head in a spin.

Blackened thrash metal is a tried and tested method but when executed efficiently it can prove to be quite a potent combination. Dawn Of Domination is accessible and keeps your focus throughout with it’s unwavering energy. The slightly crude lyrical outbursts begin to grow a little tiring but do not detract away from the enticing instrumentation no shows. If BASTARDIZER continue in this fashion it is only a matter of time before their following begins to grow and their grasp on the the proverbial ladder to the top tightens.

Rating: 8/10
