ALBUM REVIEW: Echoes From Deep November – Fires In The Distance

To be swept up a few weeks before the initial release date by a label as esteemed as Prosthetic Records is a testament to how much attention FIRES OF THE DISTANCE are accruing before their debut album has even hit the shelves. Echoes From Deep November was initially penned for a release back in May but is now due to be released on September 18th. Will this effort live up to the hype?

The Climb gets this release off to a promising start, introducing crunchy guitar work and energised drumming from the offset. The enticing melodies are particularly evocative and whilst the overall arrangement is death metal oriented, especially with the powerful vocal presence, the mood feels especially uplifting. Elusive Light carries this vibrant tone whilst also possessing hard-hitting riffs and a strong, determined stride. Impactful growls and synth work also assist in elevating the dramatic atmosphere. The Lock And The Key exudes a reflective, embracing quality as warm tones and impressive lead elements join forces with brooding synth pieces.

Reflections In The Ice injects a heightened tempo into proceedings supplemented by acoustic accompaniments, providing a theatrical style intensity as the track shifts through varying phases. Chained To The Earth offers up a more ominous, darker vibe than its counterparts whilst still feeling like a cohesive piece of the collection. Additional synth experimentation seamlessly meshes with prominent cymbal beats. Sundial may signal the closing moments of this release but it certainly doesn’t lose the established momentum. Instrumental flourishes, flamboyant sweeps and fluttering synth elements provide a poignant and fitting conclusion.

FIRES IN THE DISTANCE have certainly hit the ground running, providing an accessible blend of alluring heaviness and expressive instrumentation that flows throughout. Echoes From Deep November contains an array of pretty lengthy tracks which don’t overstay their welcome. This is purely down to the masterful construction and careful thought instilled into each piece. If anything they encourage you to revisit them to uncover the sentimentality which lies underneath.

Rating: 9/10

Echoes From Deep November is set for release on September 18th via Prosthetic Records.
