Attic Theory release track by track guide for ‘The Sign Of An Active Mind’

ATTIC THEORY have released a track by track guide for The Sign Of An Active Mind.

After being crowned Best New Band at Planet Rock Radio’s The Rocks 2020 Awards, ATTIC THEORY‘s sound combines low-slung grunge and rock ‘n’ roll to create groovy rhythms that are designed to charm. Ahead of the release of the EP, the band gave us an exclusive insight to each of the tracks:

Marionette

The story behind Marionette focuses on an easily influenced, weak-willed person who is manipulated into becoming completely different, changing their whole personality and opinions and is turned in a puppet by the one they love. The lyrics are written from the point of view of the puppeteer and how they gained control and now pull the strings.

Cold Hard Reality

The lyrics for Cold Hard Reality are written about a reaction. That red spark in your eyes when they have been opened up to a situation that is completely out of your control. Imagine that you’ve kept your head down, done as your told, followed the rules and then, in a split second, you get a sinking feeling in your gut, fight or flight kicks in and it’s in that moment, it finally registers that you’ve been stabbed in the back. You are that angry, one look will make the world burn… but you are in a place where you can’t do anything about it.

Your Light

I wrote the lyrics to Your Light about my (Lewis Wright, vocals) future wife, Kelly. In a lot of ways, writing about “the now” is not an easy task for me as I like to over analyse everything, but the lyrics for this came together really easily as they are from the heart; She represents my salvation, she lights my darkest days but a relationship should never be one sided. I wanted to give her something back by writing these words to tell her I’ll always be there and sometimes, even the brightest star needs a light to guide its way.

Doesn’t Matter

I consider Doesn’t Matter to be our f#%k you song. We wanted to write a track where we stick our middle fingers up to everyone in our lives that doesn’t believe in us and, for some reason, wants us to fail. This way, we can address them all at the same time, raise our middle fingers and make it abundantly clear, we don’t care what they think.

My Own Design

The lyrics to My Own Design were inspired by a breakdown in communication within a relationship and the realisation that both parties have become people they don’t even recognise in the mirror anymore, and should not be together. Lyrically, I wanted to mix things up a bit so I made a few alterations to the original subject matter. In ‘my version’ of events, one person has come to their senses and has realised they have become a slave of their own making… a slave of their own design… and the other, is hosting their very own pity party and hasn’t grasped that the relationship is over.

Saints Amongst Us

Even heroes have their dark sides and Saints Amongst Us explores that premise and delves into the notion of being unexpectedly dependent upon. The concept is that you are just a normal human being, no special abilities or powers but nevertheless, the decision has been taken out of your hands and you are forced to rise to the challenge and save the day.

The Sign Of An Active Mind is set for release November 27th via ThunderGun Records.
