EP REVIEW: In the Name of the Father – Vomit Forth
The new EP from Massachusetts death metal outfit VOMIT FORTH, In The Name Of The Father, is a short and not-so-sweet audio assault comprising of three tracks including recent single Prophecy Of Defilement. It comes charging out of the gate in a flurry of relentless violence that doesn’t let up from start to finish. The band refer to themselves as brutal death metal, but this EP is just at home with bands like KRAANIUM and VOMIT THE SOUL with slam riffs and raked harmonics aplenty as it is with DEEDS OF FLESH or DEFEATED SANITY. If you prefer brutal over slam, then it may be best to sit this one out.
Stand out track Born King is perhaps the most structured and memorable of the three songs on In The Name Of The Father, giving the listener surprising moments where they’d be forgiven for thinking they’d just heard BURTON C. BELL in between the gutturals and highs. It’s actually a shame there isn’t more of this kind of experimentation; overall this release is a little forgettable so it was nice to hear something a bit different in the mix.
With this release, VOMIT FORTH continue to establish themselves as a band. It’s nothing groundbreaking, and we would hope that future albums work harder to do something a bit more interesting. But, In The Name Of The Father should keep existing fans happy for now.
