Lorna Shore: From Adversity To Reincarnation

New Jersey deathcore outfit LORNA SHORE have had a bit of a bumpy road to say the least over the past few years. One vocalist departed to join CHELSEA GRIN and the other was ejected after some rather unsavoury allegations surfaced, leaving the band with quite the predicament. Enter, Will Ramos.

The answer to all their prayers with a voice sent straight from the bowels of hell. “My previous band A WAKE IN PROVIDENCE actually went on tour with LORNA SHORE, like it wasn’t even a tour it was a weekend but it was a tour in our mind!” Laughs Will. “It was like a four day run about five years ago and we became friends and networked so when the whole thing happened Austin hit me up and it all just came together from there. It’s all kind of crazy thinking about it.”

Will had built up a reputation for being one of the most exciting prospects on the deathcore circuit during his tenure with bands like A WAKE IN PROVIDENCE and MONUMENT OF A MEMORY. He felt like a match made in heaven. Sadly their tour was abruptly cut short due to the pandemic but this was also a bit of a blessing in disguise as it allowed the band to focus on some new material which eventually became their three pronged assault known as …And I Return to Nothingness.

“When we were writing this EP we really wanted to encapsulate what we want the future of LORNA SHORE to look like. I’m a new person into the band but the primary focus was bringing other elements into the sound,” discusses Will. “So for these three tracks we really wanted to bring everything to the table, the heaviness, the melody and it all flows together. It’s definitely a bit of a showcase and hopefully kind of like a foreshadowing. We all live in Jersey so it was very easy for us to meet up and practice. We did a lot of work at Josh Schroeder‘s house as a group and it works so much better, you get more work done that way.”

Into The Hellfire was the first taste of this release and grabbed the spotlight with Will showcasing a fascinating blend of scintillating screams, ferocious growls and a particular moment that can only be described as grunting that left everyone with their jaws hitting the floor. “My girlfriend was at one of our release shows and she said there were so many cameras came out for that moment. I almost cried!” Admits Will. “It was amazing and incredibly humbling. I’ve never experienced a situation like that before. Honestly, I feel like there is still so much room for me to grow. I kind of look at it like I’m comfortable doing certain things but there are so many other things that I’m missing. I look at guys like Ben Duerr and I’m like, ‘damn dude’. That guy is insane. I’m glad that everyone enjoys what I do though. I draw a lot of inspiration from loads of different places but I love I DECLARE WAR, INFANT ANNIHILATOR, like I love how Dickie writes his patterns. I’m gonna throw KING CONQUER in there too as they’re really good. My phone is loaded with things. I write so many notes and voice notes and I lose them!”

With Will‘s vocal offering being especially intense as he transitions between a frightening array of styles he is very conscious about making sure his vocal health stays at optimum levels so he can fire on all cylinders when it comes to touring. “There’s a lot of tea, and a lot of vocal warm ups. Need vocal warm ups, period. What a lot of people don’t know is you need to do vocal cooldowns too,” informs Will. “I’ve got a portable nebulizer too as I’ve got asthma which can also cause me issues with bronchitis so I need to use an inhaler. Besides having asthma a portable nebulizer can really help any vocalist you know? I also love chips. I’ll eat Lays chips before I go on stage and it’s these kind of things that you can use to really help yourself and capitalise on.”

…And I Return To Nothingness is out now via Century Media Records.
