Oakman release new music video for ‘Missed Connections’

OAKMAN have released a new music video!

The new music video, for the track Missed Connections, is the brand new single from the French pop-rock trio and marks their first new music since their last EP, SCP, which was released in September last year.

Speaking about the new song, vocalist Marine Lanzillotta says,Missed Connections is a song about loneliness, the denial of reality, and the pursuit of something that will never exist. The opening lines of the verse establish the feeling: the hope that something that is deeply important to us may turn out as we have always imagined. Eventually, that won’t be the case. For me, the second verse makes the most sense. We create a mental picture that we fantasize about and hope to avoid confronting ourselves with the real problem. In the end, we realize how lonely we truly feel. We find ourselves stuck in an unsolvable situation, and to cope, we continue to wander because nobody wants to sink. That’s how I feel in everyday life.”

Continuing to speak about the new music video, Marine says, “we wanted to go for something a bit cardboard-like, like a theatrical set design, to represent wandering in the night of a city. The music video begins with the protagonist in a state of oblivion, symbolizing a sort of mental lethargy. Then, she awakens in a new world and embarks on a journey through various scenes, seemingly searching for something. Eventually, the character is drawn towards a light in the sky, filling her with hope that she will discover what she’s looking for. She ultimately realises she is entirely alone and is returned to the state of oblivion she felt in the beginning.

We built the entire set during two weeks. But it was amazing to see it come together! This was the first time we worked with a team on set which allowed us to focus on the creative aspects and shooting the music video ourselves. We had a makeup artist because we needed different makeup and body painting for the male characters. We also had an assistant who was an immense help and oversaw the equipment for the production. Being on set is a lot of fun. We always end up with a water/raining scene – at least it was during the summer!”
