Underdark release new cover of Massive Attack’s ‘Unfinished Sympathy’

UNDERDARK have released a new song!

The new song, a cover of MASSIVE ATTACK‘s Unfinished Sympathy, is the brand new single from the Nottingham-based black metal band and its release comes as the band sign with Church Road Records.

The label will release the band’s second studio album, Managed Decline (the follow-up to 2021’s Our Bodies Burned Bright on Re-Entry) later this year. More information about the album will be unveiled in due course.

Speaking about signing with Church Road Records and the new cover, the band says, “we are beyond excited to announce that our second album Managed Decline is coming out on Church Road Records. Church Road is a label we’ve long admired and to be able to release our second album through them is truly an honour. We believe this album represents a big leap forward for us as artists and we’re very grateful to be able to share it with you all. In the meantime, enjoy this cover of MASSIVE ATTACK‘s Unfinished Sympathy we crafted in-between work on the new album.

You can learn a lot from playing someone’s else’s music so when we decided to cover a song during the recording process of the second album, it needed to be something challenging and totally different from what we’d usually do. Unfinished Sympathy seemed like a great choice as the song builds around a central theme and the arrangement is more linear than the music we’re used to playing. It’s also a song you probably wouldn’t expect a metal band to cover and we were keen to interpret it in our own style. Not to mention one of our all time favourite songs.”
