ALBUM REVIEW: Leftoverture Live & Beyond – Kansas
With multiple live albums to their name it’s no surprise as to why KANSAS pull in crowds from all over the world, their hits and their style are something the rock world know all too well. Their latest edition Leftoverture Live & Beyond is one that really sets what truly has made them one of the best rock bands of all-time in stone.
Leftoverture Live & Beyond is the first live album that features vocalist Ronnie Platt, who joined KANSAS in 2014 and features the entire of 1976’s Leftoverture in all of its glory. On a massive double disc, the album also features songs from some of their most memorable back catalogue in their career.
There’s one main thing that really makes this live album hold a torch to any other that KANSAS have released and it is the ability to show that Ronnie Platt holds such tremendous power in his voice and despite only joining the band three years prior he holds the same amount of strength as Steve Walsh. There isn’t a song where he can’t hold the notes in a live setting and you can picture him grabbing the attention of the audience on the album.
Every song sounds just as well as it did years before and the crowd definitely appear to appreciate it just as much as well. The roar from Carry On My Wayward Son is something so spectacular to hear, even though listening on a live album and Leftoverture Live & Beyond really captures that spirit. Even though you can’t see the performance you can imagine it in all of its glory, decades have passed but with no doubt KANSAS are an unstoppable force with their music, the power in what it delivers will live on forever.
