ALBUM REVIEW: Beyond The Red Light District: A Canal Experiment – Death Tribe

Lebanese mastermind Anthony Kaoteon has really grabbed the spotlight in recent years with his fearless and innovative approach to song-writing, particularly with his DEATH TRIBE project that has featured a string of amazing musicians and continues to do the same with the latest release entitled Beyond The Red Light District: A Canal Experiment. The follow-up to 2019’s Beyond Pain And Pleasure: A Desert Experiment, this new offering features the returning Linus Klausenitzer and one of the hottest drummers on the planet Baard Kolstad to name only a couple of the excellent musicians on show. This album is due for release on July 23rd via Blood Blast Distribution and is not an effort which is to be taken lightly.

Blacked Out slings out some raunchy riffing alongside aggressive vocal lines proving to be quite the punchy combination. The buoyant tempo gets your head bopping as you are sucked into the grooves. Thawra takes a more vicious turn with dissonant tones and an unnerving vibe. The raw, passionate vocals are laced with pure venom and perfectly accompany the subject matter. As the track progresses, the heaviness is dialled up significantly. Schavuit feels reminiscent of the chaotic intensity of STRAPPING YOUNG LAD. Impressive bass lines join forces with hard hitting riff work and rounds of frenetic drumming. Vocalist Terry Stooker lends his expertise to this track and displays a great variety of skill throughout.

Let There Be No Man maintains the heightened energy with a swift pace and alluring rhythms whilst Making A Murderer offers up a more tense blend of atmospherics and orchestral elements amongst the proficient instrumentation. A maniacal laugh ushers in the quirkiness of Crematorium. Snappy, enticing riff segments provide the perfect backbone for the thought-provoking lyrical content that really strikes a chord. The World Is Sick And Dying is packed full of hooks and adrenaline fuelled drum fills that are just too moreish to resist, neatly setting the scene for the potent presence of final act We Are Death Tribe. Galloping riffs, multiple vocal styles and a commanding stride hit that sweet spot to finish this release with an emphatic exclamation point.

DEATH TRIBE is about far more than just the sum of its parts and Beyond The Red Light District tackles a lot of current events in a no-holds-barred and evocative fashion which demands awareness and change. The talent contained within these compositions help bring to life these declarations. It is not every day that you get such a skillset collaborating, and it’s even more impressive to see them gel together so effortlessly through a spectrum of styles to provide such a strong statement. Anthony isn’t the kind of person to stay still for too long so it is probably a safe assumption that this won’t be the last you hear of him before the year is over.
