ALBUM REVIEW: The Way To Oblivion – Divine Chaos

DIVINE CHAOS have been proudly flying the thrash metal flag for the UK for over a decade, having graced the hallowed grounds of Bloodstock Open Air on multiple occasions as well as supporting some of the biggest names on the circuit. It is now time for the quintet to unleash their latest bout of fury in the form of The Way To Oblivion which is available now. Will this release help them further up the ladder?

Suicide Salvation hits full throttle with frenzied riffing and turbo charged drum patterns. Raspy aggressive vocals are added to the maniacal boiling pot alongside some wild solo work. Upon The Shrine exudes Ride The Lightning-esque vibes with pounding drum beats before introducing foreboding guitar tones and infectious grooves. Further impressive fret-blazing solo pieces leave their mark. Murder For Sale comes firing out of the gates with swift riffing and addictive melodies. Mind bending lead work adds the cherry on the cake to amplify the levels of technicality pouring out of the track.

Serpent Words refuses to let the momentum slip as it continues to sling riffs at you with pin point precision. The ebbing and flowing pace as the track progresses enhances the intensity and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Title track The Way To Oblivion follows suit as DIVINE CHAOS march onward with their conveyor belt of high quality shredding. Guttural bellows and machine gun drumming assist in displaying an extra layer of ominous heaviness to proceedings. Decivilise offers up a buoyant, enticing tempo with punchy riff work to get your head bobbing. Dual riff merchants Chris O’Toole and Matt Gilmour are in incendiary form as they execute scintillating solo’s with ease. An intriguing array of synths throws an unexpected curve ball.

Angel Of Misery keeps your blood pumping as we reach the final stages with ferocious growls and skin searing shredding. Complex drum patterns are the ideal accompaniment to the unravelling riff onslaught. Nations Damnation charges for the finish line with relentless galloping guitar work. Gang chants and one last string of mesmerising solo segments ensure that DIVINE CHAOS leave an emphatic boot print on your forehead as a parting gift.

It is difficult to stand out in the world of thrash metal with the titans such as TESTAMENT, KREATOR and DESTRUCTION standing the test of time and continuing to produce top drawer material but The Way To Oblivion will undoubtedly grab your attention with its unforgiving energetic frenzy of riffs which doesn’t let up for even a split second. Their blend of aggression, intensity and melody is utterly infectious and will keep you in its grasp long after the first play-through. DIVINE CHAOS are far from newcomers to the scene but this release may just be their best yet.
