Defects announce new album ‘Artificial Icons’

DEFECTS have announced a brand new album!

Titled Artificial Icons, the upcoming release from the UK metalcore outfit is set for release on October 16th via Mascot Records. The record follows 2024’s Modern Error and was produced by Jim Pinder (SLEEP TOKEN, BRING ME THE HORIZON).

Continuing the personal themes explored on its predecessor, the album tackles homelessness, addiction, social division, broken systems, grief, and survival, while showcasing the band’s evolution following extensive touring across Europe with TRIVIUM, NORTHLANE, OF MICE & MEN, ORBIT CULTURE, and FUNERAL FOR A FRIEND.

Speaking about the album, guitarist James Threadwell shares, Modern Error was built from the very first songs we ever crafted from the moment of getting into a studio together. On this album, we really had the space to develop and grow into ourselves. It’s an exciting metamorphosis.”

Alongside the announcement, the band have released the new single, Signs, featuring Matthew K. Heafy of TRIVIUM. The new song is the latest single to be released from the upcoming album, following on from the title trackHeresy, and All For Nothing.

Speaking about the track, vocalist Tony Maue says, “I want to write songs that matter. To make people think. People are dying. This needs to be addressed. It’s about looking for meaning. Trying to find a place to belong. There’s frustration, but also determination, even when the world feels like it’s crumbling. I’m so excited that this one features Matt.”
