Roadburn Festival reveals first announcements for 2020
The first announcement for next year’s Roadburn Festival have been announced!
Leading the charge in today’s announcement, the prestigious festival have announced that there will not be just one, but two curators for 2020’s event in Tilburg! Every year, the festival carefully hand pick a curator to put their distinctive stamp on a corner of the festival and make it their own. 2020’s event will feature Emma Ruth Rundle and James Kent (aka PERTURBATOR) to curate the festival.
2020’s event will mark the third time Roadburn has hosted specially commissioned projects and that trend is set to continue. Today’s announcement has revealed that James Kent is set to join forces with CULT OF LUNA’s Johannes Persson for a commissioned performance that will form something of a grand centre-piece for the festival, VILE CREATURE and BISMUTH will join forces for a project titled A Hymn of Loss and Hope and Jo Quail (who performed at last year’s festival with AT THE GATES, MYRKUR and MONO) will present her commission titled The Cartographer.
“Arguably heaviness is an emotional concept, reaching far beyond the confines of volume, speed and instrumentation,” Jo says of the juxtaposition between classical and more contemporary heavy music, in this case post-metal.
Julie Christmas will also perform at next year’s festival, performing a special, exclusive set comprising of both old favourites and new material. Joining Julie as part of her backing band will be Johannes Persson and ex-KYLSEA guitarist, Laura Pleasants.
Roadburn Festival takes place in Tilburg, The Netherlands from April 16-19th, 2020. Tickets are available from September 24th 2019.
