ALBUM REVIEW: From Villarosa To Rotherham – Romano Nervoso

Italian rockstar ROMANO NERVOSO is back with his fifth studio album From Villarosa To Rotherham. Nervoso, hailed as the ‘Godfather of Spaghetti Rock’, has created an album that acts as a tribute towards two very different locations, his hometown in Southern Italy and his wife’s hometown in South Yorkshire, which is also why the album is split in half between Italian and English.

The record itself can be described with two words: fun and chaotic. Even if you don’t understand half of the album due to the language, or any of it if you don’t speak Italian or English, you can just feel the positive energy and you find yourself wanting to jump around, living your best life. The high energy never lets up, from the opening track of Siculo Nervoso, a solid punk song that focuses on the guitar and bass, all the way to the closing track A Thousand People that, while still loud, is a little more serious sounding with its focus on catchy drum beats that you won’t be able to get out of your head.

This album is pure carnage, and you can only imagine some of the beautiful, lively crowds as each song is performed live. Some of the more standout loud punk tracks include Il Senso Della Vita, which uses a cool sound effect on the guitar that makes it phase in and out; Invisibile – Invicibile that just sounds so cool and effortless; and Il Tempo Di Morire, a loud, energetic punk song filled with brilliance.

Along with the change in language, the other difference that emerges as the record goes on is more experimentation with sounds and a focus on pop melodies on songs that otherwise remain true to the earlier chaotic nature of earlier tracks. Children Of The Sun, for example, uses synths and has a pop melody that makes you smile, and Electrified uses a funky rhythm during its bass sections. Perhaps another highlight is It’s Halloween, a fast bouncy rock song that feels like something out of an early 2000s Scooby Doo animated movie – and we mean that in the best way possible.

If you want something fun, chaotic, and to make you smile whilst you’re having a bad day, then look no further than From Villarosa To Rotherham. Whether you want something loud to get you pumped, or something fun that will make you want to dance, jump, or both, ROMANO NERVOSO has the perfect record for you.
