ALBUM REVIEW: Revelation – Siena Root

Swedish rockers SIENA ROOT have been through many transformations in their extensive tenure but this current iteration is arguably their strongest to date. Their eighth studio album, entitled Revelation, is due for release on February 24th via Atomic Fire Records. Will it live up to its title?

Coincidence & Fate opens up with some warm, fuzzy nostalgic rock tones. Slick keyboard accompaniments, smooth vocal lines, enticing blues stylings, just what the doctor ordered. Professional Procrastinator picks up the pace with an energetic beat. Groovy bass lines make their presence felt. The rhythms are so infectious they just slip straight into your soul – catharsis in its purest form. No Peace keeps the momentum in full swing as punchy drum fills will have your head bobbing along.

Fighting Gravity feels like the perfect soundtrack to a road trip, cruising down the highways with nothing but a pocket full of good vibes. There are plenty of opportunities for the instruments to have their moment of limelight and for the band members to strut their stuff. In the early stages, Dusty Roads narrowly avoids sounding like a Wanted Dead Or Alive cover before transitioning into a sombre but captivating soundscape. Vocalist Zubaida Solid continues to showcase her versatility. Winter Solstice wanders down a country-inspired route, with an upbeat, minimalist approach that is rather effective. Dalecarlia Stroll follows suit with a chilled tempo, utilising wind instrumentation and quirky shifts in tone to add additional variety into the mix.

Leaving The City transports you east with a range of cultural experimentation. The levels of creativity that unfold with each passing track are incredibly impressive. Little Burden feels like utter escapism. Alluring melodies blend seamlessly with sublime harmonies as they both whisk you away to tranquillity. Madhukauns flexes those diverse muscles even further with flourishes of flamboyant musicality, letting the instruments do the talking in a powerfully evocative display. Keeper Of The Flame returns to what brought them to the dance for one final triumphant salute. Vibrant, fascinating, the perfect curtain closer.

Revelation isn’t just your bog standard rock album. Far from it. If anything it is an expansive, creative marvel. SIENA ROOT have zero fear, bringing a whole host of orchestration to the party, stirring that wildly inventive melting pot to conjure up something spectacular. This music is built for the stage and it deserves to be played to as many people as possible.
