ALBUM REVIEW: The Three Tremors – The Three Tremors

Kicking off 2019, THE THREE TREMORS are set to release their debut self-titled record. The trio are formed of Tim “Ripper” Owens, formerly the lead singer of JUDAS PRIEST, Harry “The Tyrant” Conklin, most notable for his time with JAG PANZER, and Sean “The Hell Destroyer” Peck, renowned for work with his previous band CAGE. The band have been described as ‘three of Earth’s mightiest voices harnessed as one’, and they stay true to their word right from the get go.

Kicking off the new record is Invaders Of The Sky, which starts off quite harmonious as the trio slowly build up the tempo, before the drums and guitars go into overdrive and shift the track into a completely different gear. All three of the members deliver on the vocals, each having their own style and all contributing equally throughout, and is a solid opening track. The following track, Bullets For The Damned, really has a bit of a nostalgic throwback in the way the vocals are delivered. Granted, one of the trio is a former lead singer of JUDAS PRIEST, but if this was something you didn’t know about prior to listening to the track it is easy to think that Rob Halford is the main vocalist, while there is also a little hint of Bruce Dickinson throughout. It’s not just the vocals that are nostalgic though, the whole sound from the guitars and the rest of the music transports you back to the ’80s into the heart of classic heavy metal – it’s hard hitting, pulse racing and really gets you headbanging.

The band have been classed as a power metal outfit, but this doesn’t appear to be the case when listening through the record – there aren’t many elements that are specifically power metal related except for some of the vocals, but really it is predominately heavy metal which opens more doors really for the band as they look to progress. Some of the track titles could make you think that this is a power metal record, such as Wrath Of Asgard or Lust Of The Blade, but when you go from start to finish then you know that overall this is good old fashioned heavy metal.

There are 12 tracks on the record, and really every other track that features on the record could be one of the more notable ones. There’s a lot of focus on harmonising all three vocal styles, and with each track different to the previous one and having their own style and tempo, THE THREE TREMORS have done exceptionally well in delivering a strong record. It’s hard enough for just one vocalist to alter their style depending on the tracks, such as switching from a skull crushing heavy anthem to a more melodic ballad type track, so for all three vocalists, each with their own unique takes and skills, to do the same is something truly remarkable.

There’s a lot of promise for THE THREE TREMORS, both the record and band, and it’ll be intriguing to see how they progress over the next 12 months.

Rating: 7/10
