EP REVIEW: Logic Ravaged by Brute Force – Napalm Death

With so many great releases having already come out this year, there will always be stuff that sometimes slinks past your eyes whilst you look for the newest, shiniest release. NAPALM DEATH, whilst having released a compilation record in the form of Coded Smears, have remained pretty quiet on the new material front, and continued to do so as well, having quietly dropped a two track EP recently. Made up of one new song and a cover of SONIC YOUTH’s White Kross, this sneaky peak offered the first glimpse into the impending album release of Throes of Joy in the Jaws of Defeatism and proved that the grindcore legends are alive and well.

Five years down the line, and NAPALM DEATH remain one of the nastiest bands on the planet, and Logic Ravaged By Brute Force is as creative as it is abrasive. Taking cues from bands like CONVERGE and adding in a healthy dose of post-punk the album is more sinister and confrontational than it is out right violent. It carries the signature NAPALM DEATH buzz saw sound and if this is a taste of the new album as a whole then there is probably an album worth getting very excited for out there. The cover of White Cross is an opportunity for NAPALM DEATH to go loud, and that is generally what they do best. The song is a wall of sound with carved out leads that wash over the listener like a barbed wire blanket.

There is no doubt that NAPALM DEATH are the one of the greatest bands on Earth, and after five long years there is finally an impending new full length release in Throes of Joy. There is nothing stopping this record from becoming yet another notch for the legendary band to carve into the halls of history.

Rating: 8/10
