EP REVIEW: Orange – Neshiima

Glasgow’s NESHIIMA grabbed everyone’s attention with their Purple release earlier this year and they intend to strike while the iron is hot by releasing their second EP titled Orange on September 28th.

Orange starts on a particularly strong note with the previously released Feel It which is dowsed in groove and powerful bursts of energy. The chorus is incredibly infectious and is an ideal way to get this release underway.

Prologues ups the intensity with groove ridden riffing that is the perfect recipe for sending those pits into a frenzy. The slick rapping and emotion filled chorus feels like a combination between Mike Shinoda and FIGHTSTAR and is executed masterfully. The jabbing breakdown style guitar work towards the latter stages provides the track with that extra injection of adrenaline.

Orange is broken up by a brief interlude in the form MMJ which neatly transitions into the proceeding track The Forfeit. The quick fire vocal delivery interwoven amongst the purposeful pace, politically charged sentiments and electronic experimentation elevate the arrangement.

The edgy nu metal vibes of Player One bring a lot of energy to the forefront and the chorus could be one of the most infectious in NESHIIMA‘s repertoire. As the pace picks up there is a slight PARKWAY DRIVE influence seeping in alongside the punchy synth beats. Before you know it the end is upon us but Orange has no intention of bowing out peacefully. Livid insists on maintaining the bouncy, upbeat tempo with some lively riffs and passionate melodic elements to end this release on a euphoric high.

The progression of NESHIIMA between Purple and Orange is evident as the energetic, vibrancy remains but an extra level of sophistication has been incorporated. The rapid rapping segments complimented by the melodic passages proves to be a potent and effective combination. 2018 has already been blessed with two releases already from the Scottish quartet but it’s an exciting prospect wondering where this journey is going to take NESHIIMA next.

Rating: 8/10
