MSRY release new track by track guide for ‘Loss’

MSRY have released a new track by track guide for their upcoming EP!

The rising hardcore mob have exploded onto the scene thanks to their raging sound and incendiary live reputation. One year on from their EP Safety First, the band are back with another slab of metallic goodness; Loss. Ahead of the release of the new EP this Friday, the band have revealed an exclusive track by track guide for their new release, written by frontman Kial Churcher.

Speaking about the new release, Kial tells us, “Loss is something everyone goes through at different stages in their lives, and there’s never one solution for everything, everybody goes through it in different ways and copes with different means. We noticed that a lot of what we were all going through in our personal lives was based around losing things. Relationships, family members and ourselves in totally different ways, but we all had the same destination towards writing this record and we wanted to embed those feelings and experiences on the tracks and the art-work. The Rorschach test being an example of how people perceive and interpret things in different ways is in the same way that people look at losing something, to one person’s ability to see positivity and solace another might not to be able to accept what’s happening to them.”

Gemini

The opening track was written at a time where I wasn’t sure where I was as a person, or who I was becoming. Stuck between two different personalities and not quite being able to fully commit to either side of myself, much like the dual personality of the Gemini star sign – having to constantly battle with both sides of your psyche at same time. And honestly I’m still not sure who I am, but my passion and viciousness still carries through when playing music.

Still Breaks My Heart

SBMH is about wanting to help a person who has delved too deep into an obsession. It’s for those out there that think they’re alone against everything and everyone but don’t realise just how far they’ve come. Life can deal you a pretty bad set of cards whenever it feels like it and the strain people put themselves under can lead to going down some horrible and dark rabbit holes and it’s heart breaking to watch people go down them while trying to help give them a life-line. This is for them to know there are people out there that want to help them.

We had the absolute pleasure of being able to work with one of our favourite vocalists, Liam Cormier of CANCER BATS, on this track as well. He’s just a beast of a vocalist while being one of the nicest and sweetest guys ever. He was into the track and got the message behind the song. I love the call and receive in this song as I don’t really hear many people do it on tracks nowadays and it gives the track more of a punch instead of just having one section as the guest vocals and then the rest of the song.

Imposter

Imposter is about that feeling we all get, especially with this band where we think we doubt ourselves to the nth degree. When it comes to playing music I always know and think there are better people out there who are capable of so much more than I am and discount any achievement or milestone I reach because I don’t think I deserve it. Being that ‘imposter’ or a fraud in this music scene who has been given attention, credit or acknowledgement when I don’t feel I’ve earned any.

Guilt

We all feel guilty about something we’ve done, said or how we’ve acted at any given point in our lives, it’s that unshakeable feeling that can keep you up at night or stop you from doing things because of how uneasy it makes you feel.

Courage

We’ve always had an element of courage in all of our songs, whether it’s having the courage to move on from something toxic in your life or having the courage to stand up to people who try to keep you down. We’re very big on motivating people to be the best they can be and to do the things they’re afraid to do. This song is about having to go through those hard and dark parts of life where it feels futile to carry on – losing hope, confidence and the courage to get out of bed every morning, carrying yourself with a pessimistic and nihilistic mind set and not seeing anything getting better as you carry on.

Loss

Loss was actually written about my cat Angel (A very adept name for him) passing away and the series of feelings I had on the day and the week leading up to when he was put to sleep. We had Angel in our family since I was little and he’d seen every accomplishment and every fall I’d had and been there with me for everything. That horrible feeling of having to wake up and know it was the last time that this family member was going to be there with you and trying to cope with the impending feelings of loss was an awful experience. The song as a whole is about just that, the impending knowledge of loss and having to reason with yourself to try and find some peace in it.

Loss is set for release on November 8th via self-release. Pre-orders are available now and can be purchased here.
