The Heavy Network launches new podcast ‘On Wednesdays We Wear Black’

The Heavy Network have launched a brand new podcast; On Wednesdays We Wear Black!

The podcast, led by Kerrang! Radio‘s Sophie K, radio presenter and musician Alyx Holcombe and Distorted Sound‘s very own and popular TikTok user Yasmine Summan, provides an uninhibited look at sex, racism, music and alternative lifestyle – the chats alternative women and non-binary people have behind closed doors. The first episode of the podcast is available now via all major streaming platforms.

Speaking about the launch of the podcast, Sophie K tells us, “there’s always been an expectation of me as a mainstream presenter to be sanitised, in past jobs I was judged for who I dated, what I wore and for speaking up about social issues. It’s supposed to be alternative music not kids TV. So this is my fuck you, it’s a rebellion against all the constraints of what it means to be a rock fan. If you just wanna be you too, and want to feel accepted then feel free to come and sit at our table. It’s an outcasts uprising.”

Alyx Holcombe adds, “everytime you see anything advertised with any online medium in the alternative world, it just seems to be three guys in their basement chatting about albums from 20 years ago.” And Yasmine Summan says, “it’s not a boys club anymore, it’s for everybody. I think it’s important to see more faces and see more people like us. Because there are people like us in this space that aren’t represented enough.”

Three more new shows are already slated to launch on The Heavy Network through February and March this year. The Heavy Network is a safe space for creators to connect with people in the alternative music space & culture, helping with content creation, distribution, promotion and more whilst giving the shows autonomy over their output.
