Prospective: The Secret Sauce For Success

When someone mentions Italy the first things which spring to mind are the Colosseum in Rome, the gondolas of Venice and the leaning tower of Pisa but rumbling away in the underground is a growing metal scene which is continuing to produce potential stars. Five piece progressive outfit PROSPECTIVE have been making waves since their inception in 2013 and are now gearing up to release their latest full length offering in the form of All We Have.

“We have tried to put everything into this album. It’s heavier, more melodic and with memorable choruses that get stuck in your head. We always try to experiment with our sound and have put a lot of thought into the structures of the songs,” discusses vocalist/guitarist Luca Zini and drummer Flavio Cacciari. “We listen to a lot of different genres like trap, pop, jazz, everything really. The lyrics are a lot more mature, sincere and introspective. We focused on a lot of experiences we’ve had in life and I find my emotions influence my writing style. For example, I was in a particularly angry mood and at a stage in my life where I really didn’t know what to do with my life and that inspired the track Kill Me. We tried to put everything down that made us happy, angry and everything in between. We also wanted this album to be a huge step forward in our musical career so we took a more relaxed approach to make sure it stayed true to our vision and write ten potential singles rather than just focus on an album.”

Opportunities to share the stage with bands such as UNEVEN STRUCTURE, NORTHLANE and BETRAYING THE MARTYRS don’t come around every day but PROSPECTIVE have already managed to add these career highlights to their list of achievements gathering a sturdy fan base in the process. “When we have posted on social media to promote the new album we’ve had a lot of positive responses from everyone to say they’ve pre-ordered the album or they’re enjoying the tracks we’ve released. We even had a fan in Costa Rica who has got our logo tattooed on his arm which is the most amazing thing ever for us,” Luca and Flavio says. “To hear about someone doing that and showing us that much support from the other side of the world means a lot. During out latest European tour we played a few new track and the crowd reaction was great, people were going crazy and stage diving everywhere. It’s beautiful to see the friendships we’ve gained from the other bands we have toured with too and the kind words they’ve shared.”

During the writing process for All We Have the quintet were left with an abundance of material to choose from for the final product. “We are always writing and share a lot of ideas but when we get into album writing mode we try and write as much as possible. We recorded quite a few songs which didn’t make it to the album,” they both explain. “We sat down with our manager and decided on which tracks would be the best fit and arrangement for the album. We had 15 songs ready but only 10 made it to the record. We tried to have the perfect songs for the album and we always work as a team so that everyone is in agreement before decisions are made. I have a recording studio at home and we do everything there. I will record a few riffs which I can build on or something I can record an entire song by myself if inspiration strikes. The other guys come by and we can play around with the vocals or synths etc. It’s really relaxed, just like hanging out with friends.”

Being a part of the music industry can be a particularly intense process, especially staying active and ensuring that you are not forgotten in the ever building waves of bands which continue to surface. PROSPECTIVE have seemingly gathered all of the components in order to produce the recipe for success. “Just releasing music and staying active can help bring people to you. We have found when we go on tour that there are quite a few people that recognise our material which is great. Touring is such a big thing for a band like us to get our music out there to new audiences. We have a lot of fun on tour, before being a band we are all very good friends and are united,” Luca and Flavio both say. “We enjoy spending time on the road together and have never had an issues or disagreements. We are always supportive of each other and we’ve had some difficult times such as vehicle breakdowns but we always made sure that we never let these things get between us. While we’re on stage we always make sure we have fun as well as the crowd enjoying it. We’re very lucky to be in this situation. It’s the secret sauce really. We’ve seen a lot of bands come and go but being a family and being supportive to each other and taking everyone’s opinions into account.”
